Company B
May 1862 to April 1865 |
Joseph A. Bivin, elected 1st Lieutenant at the May 10, 1862 re-organization for three years or the duration of the war, stepped up to the rank of Captain and commanded the company until he was killed in action at Peachtree Creek in Georgia on July 20, 1864. 1st Lieutenant Isaac W. McGuire was wounded at Peachtree Creek but was able to remain with the company until the fall of 1864. Second Lieutenant Jonathon Anders who commanded the company during the fighting at Franklin and Nashville in late 1864 appears to have been elected Captain during the April 9, 1865 re-organization in North Carolina even though he was absent on furlough in Louisiana. Anders and several other members of the regiment were captured at Waterproof, Louisiana on May 3, 1865 attempting to cross the Mississippi River from Louisiana to rejoin the regiment. Anders gave to his captors his rank of 2nd Lieutenant unaware of his election to Captain. 2nd Lieutenant William A. Kelly commanded the 14 men left of the company at the surrender at Greensboro, NC on April 26, 1865. Others were present but away from the company in hospitals and on army details in North Carolina at the end. Carol Lee Yarbrough has put together a Standifer family website and included a photo and other personal information collected from several sources on Thomas Cunningham Standifer. She also has posted information on other family members who served in both Confederate and Union armies during the war. Scroll down her Home Page and click on the buttons marked Military Records and Civil War - Confederacy. You will find the materials on Thomas C. Standifer in the Louisiana section. |
